NAB Show 2018: TVU Networks to Showcase HEVC Advancements and Range of New and Updated IP Video Solutions
TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, will showcase a variety of new and updated IP based products and technologies at the upcoming NAB Show. The company will continue its technological advancements to HEVC, and will show its entire HEVC solution set integrated with the company’s proprietary video transmission technology, Inverse StatMux Plus (IS+). TVU Networks is expanding its remote production offerings with TVU Timelock – which enables entire remote events to be produced from a control room in a separate location. Another company solution that will be making its NAB debut is TVU Transcriber – an AI-based audio to text transcribing service that uses voice recognition technology. TVU Networks will also introduce improvements to its existing line of IP video workflow solutions, with enhancements for its video acquisition, transmission, production, distribution and management technologies.
“At this year’s NAB Show, we’ll introduce new solutions and product updates that have been developed after working closely with our customers and identifying how we can further simplify and improve their production workflows. With the transition from digital to IP firmly underway with broadcasters, we continue to round out our IP offerings even as we look to the next workflow disruptive technology. We look forward to demonstrating our complete line of efficient and cost-effective live video products in the Central Hall at NAB Show.” – Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.
Panasonic And TVU Introduce Integrated Video Solutions – Both companies will showcase the collaborations at the 2018 NAB Show
The Panasonic AJ-PX270 P2 handheld HD camcorder has been integrated with TVU transceivers, enabling streaming directly to the transceiver via cellular, Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The camera delivers an IP video stream, thumbnail and current status to the Transceiver or Command Center interface. It can also be utilised with a suite of functions available on the TVU Transceiver or the TVU Cloud service, including IP streaming output, TVU Producer Pro and TVU Booking Service. Also being show is an integration between Panasonic’s PTZ cameras and TVU Vista. With Vista, a Panasonic PTZ camera can stream from the field to a studio with a TVU Transceiver. Once received, the PTZ camera stream can be distributed via TVU Grid to other locations or streamed to the web. Check it out on the TVU or Panasonic (C3607) stands.
Media 4.0 = TVU MediaMind
“Media 4.0 is about enabling the mass production of content for individual audiences through the automation of video production and distribution,” said Paul Shen. “This helps media companies looking to produce more content without increasing their expenditures. Instead of creating content manually, technology can enable the tailoring of that raw video to viewers on specific social media platforms, cell phones, streaming channels, and TV. Archived footage can be re-purposed as an asset complete with searchable metadata. Media companies can’t earn revenue from material that’s never broadcast.”
TVU MediaMind consists of TVU Contribution Automation, TVU AI Engine, TVU Real Time Search Engine, TVU Workflow Engine and TVU Producer Pro. From the start of the video production process, all video is immediately indexed based on its metadata by TVU MediaMind’s AI real-time search engine. Using an entirely cloud-based model complete with voice and object recognition, live and pre-produced video clips are located and indexed down to the exact frame and can be shared instantly. MediaMind automates the ability for different production groups to find the content. With cloud-based TVU Producer Pro, different content can be cost-effectively created for different platforms or even audience groups.
Z CAM Professional VR Cameras at NAB Show 2018, Booth C1052
Z CAM, known for their incredibly high quality 180° and 360° cameras, will be showcasing the micro 4/3 Z CAM S1 Pro and new 180° stereoscopic Z CAM K1 Pro. On top of this, the Z CAM K1 Pro is now Google VR180 Format Certified for guaranteed online compatibility. If you are thinking about any kind of 360° or 180° video capture (or live streaming), these cameras should be on the top of your list. Learn a little more here and get in touch if you would like to arrange a meeting at the show!
This year they have also revamped their cinema camera, and it is absolutely head-turning. The camera – still with a micro 4/3rds form factor – is capable of 4k content at up to 120fps in HDR. The camera can be controlled over WiFi, Ethernet, serial, or USB type C, with the mobile or laptop Z CAM controller. Data can be saved to CFAST memory card, over USB, or streamed over Ethernet. Data can be encoded as either H.264 or H.265 – up to 1700mbps for high frame rate 4k HDR content. Output can be done over HDMI 2.0, or optionally 12G-SDI, and frame rate can be synced on its included LEMO port.
What makes this camera particularly attractive though is its smarts. Among the camera’s many features is a smart detection algorithm. The camera can identify objects within its hardware and make this information available over API, for object identification and deep learning algorithms. The camera even includes SDK support for future products such as a motion tracking gimbals or other smart uses.
As VR and 360° content continues to progress, Z CAM continues to run at the forefront — now introducing a more cost effective version of its stereoscopic cinema camera. The Z CAM V1 uses the same sensors as the Z CAM S1 — however increasing the number of sensors from four to ten. This allows the camera to produce content at 6k stereoscopic levels at a full 60fps for true high resolution videography. The Z CAM V1 takes everything good about the Z CAM S1 and moves it into the stereoscopic territory, producing true stereoscopic 360° footage.

Visit the stand or get in touch if you would like to arrange a meeting at the show!
Vimeo & Livestream at NAB Show 2018, Booth C3307
With the acquisition of Livestream by Vimeo last year, there are expectations of some announcements showing how the integration is progressing. The clever little Mevo camera, powerful Livestream Studio tools and business streaming platform will no doubt be on display, but it will be interesting to see if and how those products will develop and where Vimeo are planning for growth. The Vimeo Live platform will be a major focus and I would expect some interesting news on partner integrations and client case studies. Vimeo Live is obviously well supported by the technologies Livestream brings to the party and their client base will likely provide a lot of Vimeo’s good news for uptake of their services. Hopefully there will be some positive news to show that investment in Livestream continues after the change of ownership. As one would expect, there will be a number of live streams (Livestreams) from NAB Show 2018, which you can register for here.

Teradek Bolt for Sony Venice
New for NAB 2018, Teradek has announced that the industry-leading Bolt zero delay wireless video system will be integrated into the Sony Venice ecosystem. The Teradek Bolt for Sony Venice will be available in three models (500 ft, 1000 ft, and 3000 ft), offering a streamlined solution for integrating high performance wireless video into Venice camera setups without extraneous cables. The module passes data, audio and video via the camera’s rear 144-pin connector, eliminating clunky power and video cables while ensuring data path integrity from camera to other accessories such as the AZXS-R7 or RAW/X-OCN recording units. To save power, the device can be switched off without interrupting the signal path going through to the recorder module.
The Vitec family has continued its march for industry dominance with a number of acquisitions, the list of which is impressive in its breadth and strength. We have already seen some interesting results coming from the closer integration between the Vitec Group brands, including the new Teradek 703 Bolt All-In-One Wireless Field Monitor, a merging of SmallHD’s excellent monitoring technology and Teradek’s advanced wireless transmission. They have also announced, and will no doubt be displaying, the new Bolt 10K Wireless Receiver, a super long range (10,000ft) receiver compatible with Bolt 3000 transmitters. Teradek and other Vitec Group brands will have a lot more to say so leave a healthy amount of time to take a full tour – have a look at Sachtler flowtech and Litepanels Gemini mentioned below!

Marquis Moves Media at the NAB Show 2018, Booth SU6225
Let Bruce know if you would like to arrange a meeting with Marquis Broadcast at the show!
- Premiere Parking: Marquis’ first step towards the full Adobe Premiere Pro CC version of Project Parking software. As an introduction, it can read Adobe Premiere Pro CC projects, copy the media files that are referenced in the project, and move these to a new location, creating an updated version of the project that points to the new media location.
- Interplay Metadata Export Tool (IMET): Enables customers to take an Avid Interplay project and media metadata and export it – essential when archiving projects from an Interplay system. This is useful to backup Interplay metadata, make it more widely available and to reduce the size of the Interplay database.
- This new Medway cloud workflow allows a customer to process content with the Medway Engine Web Services (MEWS) hosted in Amazon Web Services.
- Workspace Tools products are now Avid Platform Certified, delivering Avid’s seal of approval for the company’s powerful disaster recovery, backup and business continuity solutions.
- Delta Parking functionality within Project Parking and Workspace Tools, means an Avid project can be moved to shared storage or cloud, with changes versioned, it means only new media and the project metadata is moved.

Wowza Streaming Solutions at NAB Show 2018
While the functionality had yet to be enabled (waiting on Facebook I believe), the Wowza ClearCaster hardware was built ready to deliver 4K and 360° streaming with a simple software update. While some may appreciate this forethought and future-proofing, the fact is that the majority of content being produced in Australia is HD, and in the broadcast space, this is not likely to change any time soon. Enter ClearCaster 1080 – A 1080p only version with the same crystal clear encoding quality, rock-solid reliability and server room/mobile rack friendly design. Aside from 4K, the new appliance also does away with the Wowza Streaming Cloud 1 year subscription and the comment moderation tools – resulting in system focused on the mission of streaming to Facebook cleanly and simply. Also resulting in a system that is less than half the price of the full featured 4K appliance, which will be welcomed by many who appreciated what Wowza were doing here, but could not stomach the price tag. This will hopefully open up the ClearCaster to a much broader market! More as Bruce gets it, but for now, check out the details at Wowza.
storageDNA Presenting groundbreaking technologies across CLOUD, OBJECT and TAPE STORAGE @ NAB Show 2018, Booth SL13609
Introducing HYPERTAPE – High Performance Direct Access Tape
This dynamic system was developed to let users interact directly with files on a tape using their favourite applications for the fastest, simplest LTO tape workflows available anywhere. By building a Random-Access Database (RAD) file for each tape’s media contents, Hyper Tape eliminates the latency seek and restore time typically found on linear tape storage. This allows the LTO tape to behave much like a hard drive for high performance video applications such as NLEs and transcoders.
Also Showcasing HYBRID DISK / CLOUD
- Preview the latest integration of DNAevolution with disk and cloud.
- A new data mover engine optimised for cloud including a hyper scanner, an SSD catalogue engine and blistering cloud speeds.
- The engine is optimised for both public (eg. Amazon S3) and private (eg. HGST Activescale) cloud targets
DNAevolution Multi-Gen LT08 Migration
Come see DNAevolution with support for LTO-8, the ability to manage multiple generations of LTO drives (LTO-5/6/7/8) in the same library and partition, providing tape to tape migrations across different generations without needing a disk restore. Questions about LTO8 and what it will mean for your archive now and in the future? Have a quick read of the storageDNA LTO-8 Site, and ask Bruce if you need to know more!
