“HDR Image Analyzer opens up a whole realm of understanding of what you’re doing to your image colour and brightness values that there would be no other way to get,” – Samuel Bilodeau, Head of Technology and Post Production at Mystery Box (Full User Story)

“ArsenalFX Color is a Santa Monica, CA-based full-service post production facility for episodic television. The bustling boutique studio works on approximately 15-16 shows at any given time, everything from major network medical dramas like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Good Doctor”, to “Ballers” and “Silicon Valley,” to “One Day at a Time” and many others. For the past two seasons, several shows have been finished in HDR using PQ and HDR10, and this year Arsenal will deliver Dolby Vision for two Netflix series as well. In order to support such an array of high dynamic range deliverables, Senior Colorist Rory Gordon and the Arsenal team rely on AJA’s HDR Image Analyzer to guarantee that images will be faithful to the intent of the show’s creators whether the final display is in SDR or one of the many HDR standards.” (Full User Story)

Colour Space

Several different colour spaces can be utilised for analysis including 709, P3, XYZ and 2020 as well as camera native colour spaces. HDR Image Analyzer also offers an Auto HDR mode change for automatic HDR colour space triggering when possible.

Waveform Lumi Colour

HDR Image Analyzer offers a range of views for waveform representations including Waveform Lumi Colour. Waveform Lumi Colour offers a gorgeous combination of both luminance and colours in the project’s colour space.

Vectorscope

Vectorscope displays the colour saturation of each pixel in the video frame, with the middle of the circle indicating a lower saturation level, and the edge of the circle indicating a higher saturation level.

Vectorscope Targeting

The vectorscope additionally offers a zoom feature and a skin tone line, whose value can be manually set as desired, especially useful for ensuring consistent skin tone results for sequence work and camera matching.

Whitepoint

HDR Image Analzyer allows you to set a white point relevant for the project at hand. Choose between DCI, D65 or simply turn off.

CIE XY Gamut View

In HDR mode the CIE XY Gamut View can be used to check the encoded colours, and whether they are within the valid limit of colour range. This is relevant when working in the Rec.2020 colour space where the actual pixels are supposed to be limited to the P3 colour gamut.

False Colour – Gamut Warning

Out of Gamut False Colour mode provides a clear visual representation of areas of your image that may present a problem. The results can be saved automatically within your logged files for QC needs.

Pixel Picker

Precision is key and HDR Image Analyzer make it simple. Glide your mouse across your footage and use the Pixel Picker to give you a read out of the exact pixels Nit level, Hex or Decimal code values.
