KONA IP is a desktop video and audio I/O card for professional IP based workflows.
KONA IP is the next generation of AJA’s industry leading KONA line of PCIe capture and playback cards, and works with AJA’s Control Room, Control Panel software and SDK tools, providing support for leading content creation applications. Designed as a flexible platform with support for SMPTE 2022-6 and 2022-7 uncompressed IP video, optional TR-01 JPEG 2000 workflows, and SMPTE 2110 to come soon, KONA IP offers you the flexibility to keep current as the IP transition proceeds.
KONA IP has 2 x 10 GigE SFP cages for multi-channel input and or output enabling effective reception, delivery or both. Mix and match based upon your project’s needs knowing you are working with the same high quality uncompressed 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 2K/HD/SD video and 16-Channel embedded audio you are accustomed to today.
Broadcast IP is here. Transition seamlessly with KONA IP.
KONA IP is the latest member of the venerable KONA Desktop I/O product
line that professionals have come to know and rely on.
KONA IP is designed to provide you with the familiar KONA experience
you are used to for your current 2K/HD/SD workflows and seamlessly move you into the IP stream.
KONA IP offers SMPTE 2022-6/7 uncompressed IP video standards with redundant signal reliability and optional JPEG 2000 workflows available soon (with a JPEG 2000 license purchase-able from this webpage).
Your transition to IP pipelines with KONA IP is supported by leading NLE, Compositing and Streaming applications via our industry-best plug-ins, plus the AJA software tools you relay on including AJA Control Room, and AJA Control Panel.
KONA IP also includes a Downstream Keyer with support for graphics with alpha channel over video, matte or frame buffer, or frame buffer content over incoming video or matte, perfect for the needs of live IP delivery.
Standards Matter, Move Forward Together
KONA IP’s extensible architecture ensures that as time moves on, you will be able to adapt and move safely ahead as KONA IP offers firmware update capabilities common to all KONA cards.
At NAB 2017, AJA is demonstrating KONA IP with SMPTE 2110 which provides the move to multiple essence streams, essential for smooth inter-operability across vendor products and workflows. Broadcasters will be able to synchronise production of audio, video and ancillary data elements, eliminating the need for embedding/de-embedding to/from SDI while also reducing latency.
Future firmware updates will also support additional codecs and advanced IP protocols including VSF TR-04, VSF TR-03 and more.
JPEG 2000 License Option
The new KONA IP firmware license option enables compression and decompression of HD video in real time to/from JPEG 2000 encoded within an MPEG 2 transport stream. Featuring support for TR-01, the update ensures inter-operability with other JPEG 2000 systems and devices across the network.
It supports three configurations:
- Up to two simultaneous JPEG 2000 outputs
- Up to two simultaneous JPEG 2000 inputs
- A simultaneous JPEG 2000 input and output to a system running KONA IP.
A single KONA IP configuration with the latest Desktop Software v13 installed offers out-of-the-box functionality for a range of creative apps including Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple FCP X, Avid Media Composer and AJA Control Room; dual KONA IP configurations are also supported for more demanding JPEG 2000 workflows for SDK developers.
HDR or High Dynamic Range, provides the ability to display a wider and richer range of colours, much brighter whites, and much deeper, darker blacks than standard signals allow. This gives your imagery a more ‘dynamic’ look and allows for natural true to life colours to be communicated to your audience.
KONA IP provides this support for your HD HDR pipelines to HDMI compatible displays in software v13 by offering HDR 10 support with HDR Infoframe metadata, in accordance with HDMI 2.0a/CTA-861.3. Desktop Software v13 introduces HLG support over HDMI with the latest versions of Adobe Premiere CC.
J2K Workflows: Facilities
KONA IP works with AJA IP Mini-Converter transmitters and receivers for ingest, output and display from workstations across a facility. When using high quality JPEG 2000 imagery over IP, the combination of AJA IP Mini-Converters and KONA IP truly bridges baseband and broadcast IP seamlessly and simply.
J2K Workflows: Creative Suites
When used with compatible NLE, graphics or colour grading software, KONA IP is compatible with AJA IP Mini-Converter transmitters and receivers for ingest and output from workstations using high quality JPEG 2000 imagery over IP, truly bridging baseband and broadcast IP seamlessly, and dramatically expanding the possibilities in your suite.
IP makes distance a non-issue, now you can edit, playback and deliver from anywhere in the world that offers the bandwidth you need to tie into IP infrastructure. Ingesting, editing or playing out remotely is the new normal.
Monitor locally with KONA IP’s HDMI output with support for frame rates up to 60p on cost effective HDMI displays wherever you are.
